Extreme Couponing OR Extreme Greed?

By now I am sure you have all heard of the new show on TLC called Extreme Couponing. There have been many opinions about this show and now I must voice my own.

I personally do not feel that anyone in their right mind would need a stockpile of 1,000 tubes of toothpaste! That is just plain insane and should be donated to those in need. I have been using coupons for twenty years and toothpaste is one of those items that you can obtain for free or nearly free after a sale and coupon. I feel that some of these stockpiles are just out of pure greed.

I believe in using coupons the “right” way. Yes, there is a right way and an illegal way to use coupons and the latter has been shown on Extreme Couponing several times. This is the part of the show that disgusts me. I have purchased many items throughout the years and have paid pennies or had been lucky to get the items for free by watching sales and using coupons the way they should be used. This show has demonstrated a shopper using coupons for items that she did not purchase, just because she took the time to find a way to “beat” the manufacturers. She had purposely researched which coupons will scan on any item being purchased even if “that” item was not in fact purchased. Of course by doing that someone can bring a $1,000 purchase down to FREE!! That is not reality. It is fraud and I believe that the longer this show is on the air, the faster the honest couponers are going to see some “extreme” changes to store coupon policies and coupons directly from the manufacturers.

I do not think it is right to empty store shelves especially when it is an item that you do not even use just because you got it for free.

Several of the grocery stores where I shop have limits to only 4 like coupons per transaction or they only double up to 4 like coupons per transaction. Many stores have policies that are similar. Hmm, I think some rules have probably been broken just for this so called reality show.

Have you watched the show? What are your thoughts?
